The Licensed Teacher program with a concentration in Early Childhood Education provides early childhood educators with an advanced professional degree and qualifications beyond licensure. Course work for the degree includes a focus on scholarly research, statistical analysis, and writing for professional journals.  This degree is also suitable for early childhood teachers who wish to pursue a doctoral degree, but is also for early childhood teachers who wish to improve and update their professional competency in teaching and enrich their teaching expertise for becoming master teachers. Completion of the program requirements leads to the upgrade of the teaching license to the Postgraduate Professional level or its equivalent from another state.

Kindergarten Teachers, Except Special Education
Teach elemental natural and social science, personal hygiene, music, art, and literature to kindergarten students. Promote physical, mental, and social development. May be required to hold State certification.
Preschool Teachers, Except Special Education
Instruct preschool-aged children in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth needed for primary school in preschool, day care center, or other child development facility. May be required to hold State certification.
Requirements
Applicants must:

Hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college/university;

Have a general undergraduate grade point average of at least 2.80;

Submit an application letter of interest;

Submit official copies of all transcripts;

Submit a written essay on career goals (two pages) that demonstrates academic writing proficiency;

Submit two letters of professional reference for this program of study; and

Have an interview with the graduate program director.
