¹ÏÉñÍø School of Nursing is a leader in the use of distance learning technologies for course delivery in the graduate nursing programs. Our online graduate programs are consistently recognized by U.S. News and World Report as being in the top 25% of online graduate nursing programs nationally. We are also a leader in the use of standardized patients for clinical nursing education. A long-standing partnership with the Eastern Virginia Medical School/Sentara Center for Simulation and Immersive Learning enables graduate students to learn critical health assessment and cultural competency skills by interacting with standardized patients.

Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nurses
Provide advanced nursing care for patients with psychiatric disorders. May provide psychotherapy under the direction of a psychiatrist.
Nurse Practitioners
Diagnose and treat acute, episodic, or chronic illness, independently or as part of a healthcare team. May focus on health promotion and disease prevention. May order, perform, or interpret diagnostic tests such as lab work and x rays. May prescribe medication. Must be registered nurses who have specialized graduate education.
Clinical Nurse Specialists
Plan, direct, or coordinate the daily patient care activities in a clinical practice. Ensure adherence to established clinical policies, protocols, regulations, and standards.
