Graduate Rotations

This program is dedicated to enabling students without a supervisor to find their ideal match among faculty members, based on one or two month rotations (as specified in the faculty member's description). In contacting the faculty member, please be aware that you may be asked details such as academic interests and your current GPA.

Chunqi Jiang

Chunqi Jiang, PhD

Associate Professor
Electrical and Computer Engineering
Frank Reidy Research Center for Bioelectrics
4211 Monarch Way, Norfolk, VA 23508
Tel: 757-683-7061
Email: cjiang@odu.edu

Research Interests: My engineering group are interested in cold plasma (ionized gases) for environmental and biomedical applications. In particular, studies of inactivation of microrganisms in a medium (i.g. air or water) or on a surface using electrical discharges, cancer cells inhibition or inactivation using intense ultrashort electric fields, and reactive oxygen and nitrogen species are our areas of interest.

Thomas Vernier

P. Thomas Vernier, Ph.D.

Research Professor
Frank Reidy Research Center for Bioelectrics
¹ÏÉñÍø
Norfolk, VA 23508
pvernier@odu.edu

Research Interests: We concentrate on the effects of very short (nanosecond), intense (megavolt-per-meter) pulsed electric fields on cells and tissues, combining experimental observations with molecular simulations. The focus of our recent work is the delineation and characterization of the biophysical mechanisms that govern electric field-driven, nondestructive perturbations of biological membranes.
