Aaron Karp is senior lecturer in political science at ¹ÏÉñÍø in Norfolk, Virginia. He also is senior consultant to the Small Arms Survey in Geneva.
His early research contributed to creation of the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR). As a consultant to the UN Secretary-General he was principal author of the Report of the United Nations Secretary-General on South African Nuclear Weapons, which helped lead to creation of the African Nuclear Weapons Free Zone in 1996. In 1998 he was an expert advisor to the U.S. Commission to Assess Ballistic Missile Threats to the United States (the Rumsfeld Commission). As Consultant to the UN Secretary-General, he also co-authored the Secretary-General's Study on Missiles.
From 2005-2016 he was co-editor of the journal Contemporary Security Policy. His books include Ballistic Missile Proliferation (Oxford, 1996), Global Insurgency and the Future of Armed Conflict (Routledge, 2007), Inconspicuous Disarmament (Taylor & Francis, 2009), and Firearms (UN Office on Drugs and Crime, 2015).
