Taryn Raschdorf is Assistant Professor of Music Education at ¹ÏÉñÍø, where she teaches courses in elementary and secondary choral music education and serves as the advisor for the collegiate NAfME chapter. Dr. Raschdorf earned a PhD in music education from the University of Colorado, Boulder. She holds a Bachelor and Master of Music in Music Education from ¹ÏÉñÍø.
Prior to her appointment at ¹ÏÉñÍø, Dr. Raschdorf served as Graduate Instructor of Music Education at the University of Colorado, where she taught undergraduate courses in music education and supervised student teachers. Previously, she taught elementary general music and high school chorus in Virginia Beach and Norfolk, Virginia.
Dr. Raschdorf’s research areas include mentoring and supporting novice music educators, building relationships in the teacher education community, professional development for music educators, music skills and education for classroom teachers, and maintaining musicality in music teaching. She has had the honor to conduct sessions and present her research at national music conferences such as SMTE (The Society of Music Teacher Education), Mountain Lake Colloquium, Music EdVentures SongWorks, and CMEA (Colorado Music Educators Association). In addition to being a music educator for over 15 years (Teacher of the Year, 2005), Dr. Raschdorf taught ballet and modern dance at Academie de Ballet in Virginia, has been a featured vocal soloist (placing first at the 2009 NATS competition), and performed in local theater.
