Banner unavailable Saturday, October 12, through Wednesday, October 16, 2024

We have been using Banner (an Ellucian product) for over 27 years as the university’s centralized administrative and academic records system. Until now, Ellucian applications, including databases, have been hosted on-site at . We have been working closely with Ellucian for the past year on a plan to move Banner and other Ellucian applications to the cloud, and we are finally ready to make that move during Fall break.

To complete the migration process, Banner products will be offline and unavailable from Saturday, October 12 (beginning at 12:01 a.m.), through Wednesday, October 16 (at 11:59 p.m.).

Go-Live Event

We are scheduling the Go-Live event for migration to Ellucian Managed Cloud during Fall break. Banner and other Ellucian applications will not be available for regular usage from:

Saturday, October 12, 12:01 a.m.
to Wednesday, October 16,11:59 p.m.

Impact

During the outage, users of Banner and other Ellucian applications cannot access the systems to do normal daily operations. This will be like the times when we do Banner upgrades or year-end processing, except the outage will be a little longer.

During the migration, we plan to have a “read-only” version of Banner database available to some supporting systems like MIDAS and Shibboleth to enable continuous operations of other systems at .

Timeline

We have prepared the following timeline in consultation with Ellucian. These timings and dates will be finalized in early September.

October 1-11
  • Code-Freeze for systems migrating to Ellucian Cloud. We would not be able to apply upgrades or make structural changes to databases or codes.
October 11
  • Sync Banner (AIR_DB) with other systems on-prem like card center, library etc.
October 12
  • Take backups for all systems.
  • Upload file from on-prem to Ellucian AWS account.
October 12-13
  • Ellucian will start creating our Banner environment.
October 14
  • Ellucian will start creating Schedule A systems (listed below).
October 15
  • Ellucian will share Banner Admin forms and Banner Self-Service for limited testing and validation for IT and functional areas.
  • Ellucian will share Schedule A.
  • Ellucian will share updated wallets for integrations with third-party systems and key-in passwords for native integration.
October 15-17
  • Ellucian will continue to restore BDMS environment.
October 16
  • Upon signing off from , Ellucian will make our Managed Cloud Banner environment live for all to use.
  • Schedule A products other than ODS/EDW/RAP will be available to use.
  • Ellucian will start setting up ODS/EDW/RAP to be available over next 36-48 hours (about 4 days).
  • IT will work with partners on prem and other vendors with new and updated URLs to be used in those systems.
October 17-31
  • Ellucian will work to configure our PPRD environments inEllucian Managed Cloud environment. These environments will be clonedfromproduction environment in the cloud. PPRD environments will not reflect any development or changes that are on-prem.
