New and Updated Technology on Campus (Fall 2021)

We are very excited to welcome faculty and students back to a full slate of in-person classes this fall. I think we are all looking forward to regaining a sense of community and engaging with our vibrant campus. As we return this semester, I want to remind you of some of the technology services available on campus and let you know of some technological improvements and changes.

Course Collaboration Tool

The Course Collaboration Tool makes it easy to add all of your students at once to a Zoom meeting, Microsoft Team or Google Drive. We are constantly adding new features to make it more useful to you. More about the Course Collaboration Tool.

Extended Classrooms

Thanks to the quick shift to remote learning last year, most of our classrooms are now "extended," meaning they have built-in Zoom capabilities for hybrid instruction, lecture capture or guest lecturers. More about extended classrooms.

Lecture Capture

Touch "Lecture Capture" on the classroom's touch screen control panel to record your class for later viewing. (This starts a Zoom meeting that is not accessible to your students in real time.) The system knows the class assigned to the room and automatically saves the recording to the instructor's My Media. Make your recordings available in Blackboard for students who couldn't make it to class or who may need to review the information on their own time. More about lecture capture.

Classroom Computers

The desktop computers in our technology classrooms have all been upgraded. Log in to any classroom desktop with your ¹ÏÉñÍø email address (not your MIDAS ID) and MIDAS password for a persistent experience: your settings, your OneDrive files, your Edge bookmarks will follow you from computer to computer. Learn more about the latest version of Windows 10 on ¹ÏÉñÍø computers at odu.edu/win10.

Zoom Recordings

Speaking of Zoom, recordings look a little different lately. Unless you specifically publish a particular view (active speaker only, gallery view or shared screen), students will be able to toggle between views as they watch. More about Zoom recordings.

Two-Factor Authentication

Whether you use the classroom desktop or bring your own device, remember a lot of ¹ÏÉñÍø services require two-factor authentication. Don't forget to bring your second factor (your smartphone, most likely) to class. More about Duo two-factor authentication.

¹ÏÉñÍø Attendance

Most classrooms now have attendance management technology - students can check in and out using their smart University ID card or an app on their smartphone, and instructors can integrate attendance data with the course gradebook in Blackboard. More about ¹ÏÉñÍø Attendance.

ITS Operations Center

Just a reminder: The Operations Center (on the 4th floor of the Engineering & Computational Sciences Building) offers optical scanning for automated grading of multiple choice tests and high volume printing. More about OpScan grading and high-volume printing.

¹ÏÉñÍøMobile App

Our award-winning mobile app has a brand new look and some great new features. Different personas offer a unique experience for students, faculty/staff or guests with hyper-personalized tools. More about ¹ÏÉñÍøMobile.

Printing

We've made some changes mainly to the way students print, but now anyone -- faculty, staff and students -- can print anywhere -- to any MFP on campus. We call it Monarch Print, and you can learn more here.

If you have any questions or issues with technology on campus, our ITS Help Desk remains available 24/7 by phone or email.
