The #YouAreWelcomeHere scholarship program recognizes international students with a vision for embracing intercultural understanding. This program provides two first-year international undergraduate students with annual scholarships that are renewable for up to four years of study covering 50% of tuition at the time of initial enrollment.

Successful applicants will be dedicated to furthering the #YouAreWelcomeHere message by bridging intercultural divides. Applicants will submit a 500-1000 word written essay or a 2-5 minute video about their ideas for advancing intercultural learning and understanding at ¹ÏÉñÍø.

  • Ìýto ¹ÏÉñÍø by April 15 of the year you want to start your undergraduate studies.
  • Before submitting your #YouAreWelcomeHereSscholarship application, email oic@odu.edu to inquire if one of the scholarships is vacant that year. As awardees can renew their scholarships for up to four years, some years these scholarships will not be awarded to new recipients.
  • If you are applying in a year when a scholarship is vacant, then you can submit the application form below and your application essay/video via email to oic@odu.edu by March 15.
  • Applicants will be notified about the outcome of their applications by April 15.
  • Awardees will claim the scholarships by submitting a tuition deposit to ¹ÏÉñÍø by May 1.

  • Scholarship can be renewed for up to 4 years (Fall and Spring semesters only)
  • Participate in at least 10 hours of cultural sharing and engagement with the local community
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
  • Enroll and successfully complete a minimum of 12 credits for Fall and Spring semesters

  • You are a first-year, undergraduate, international applicant of any major applying to ¹ÏÉñÍø. International applicants are individuals intending to apply for an F-1 visa who hold citizenship in a country outside the U.S. and who don't also possess U.S. citizenship or permanent residency.
  • You demonstrate interest andÌýinitiative in leadership and intercultural learning.
  • YouÌýmeet the admission criteria and adhere to the deadlines at ¹ÏÉñÍø.
  • You complete a scholarship application andÌýa 500-1,000 word essay or a two-to-five minute videoÌýdescribing your ideas for advancing intercultural learning and understanding at ¹ÏÉñÍø, and how you plan to apply your ideas at the school you are applying to.
