Mission & Purpose

  • The Women and Gender Equity Center'sÌýLGBTQIA+ Initiatives strives to provide students, faculty, staff, and members of the Hampton Roads area a community where they can be free and confident in expressing their identities.ÌýThe WGECÌýstrives to reduce homophobia, transphobia, and heterosexism in the ¹ÏÉñÍø community through educational and interactive programming, mentorship, and LGBTQIA+Ìýadvocacy.

  • As(t*)erisk, ¹ÏÉñÍø's Trans* Student Advisory Board, is committed to cultivating a safe and affirming campus environment for community members of all gender identities. The mission of As(t*)erisk is to strengthen and amplify the diverse voices of the ¹ÏÉñÍø trans* student community in their pursuit of equity through advocacy, education and student engagement.

  • As(t*)erisk meets for five general board meetings each semester, once per month.

  • Students who meet one of the following requirements may apply to serve on As(t*)erisk:

  • Undergraduate student who identifies as part of the trans* community.

  • Undergraduate student who identifies as transgender.

  • Undergraduate student who identifies as gender non-conforming.

  • Undergraduate student who identifies as non-binary.

  • Undergraduate student who identifies as gender queer.

  • Graduate student who identifies as part of the trans* community.

  • Graduate student who identifies as transgender.

  • Graduate student who identifies as gender non-conforming.

  • Graduate student who identifies as gender non-binary.

  • Graduate student who identifies as gender queer.
